BUSINESS
SIZE/CLASSIFICATION - DEFINITIONS
Large Business Large
businesses are defined as businesses that are not classified as
a small business by The Small Business Administration.
Small Business Small businesses are
defined as businesses, including its affiliates, that are
independently owned and operated, not dominant in the field of
operation in which it is competing and can further qualify
under the criteria concerning the number of employees, average
annual receipts, or other criteria as defined by The Small
Business Administration regulations.
Small
Disadvantaged Business Small disadvantaged
businesses (SDB) are defined as businesses that are at least
51% owned and operated by a socially and economically
disadvantaged individual(s) and have been certified by The
Small Business Administration (i.e., ProNet database).
Women-Owned Small Business Women
business enterprises (WBE’s) are defined as businesses that are
at least 51% owned and operated by one or more women who also
control and operate it.
HUBZone
Small Business HUBZone businesses are defined as businesses
that have been certified by The Small Business Administration
(i.e., ProNet database).
Veteran-Owned
Small Business Veteran owned businesses are defined as a
business that is at least 51% owned and operated by a
Veteran(s) of the U.S. Armed Forces with U.S. citizenship.
Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business Service Disabled Veteran Owned businesses are defined
as businesses that are at least 51% owned by an individual(s)
who has a physical or mental impairment, which substantially
limits one or more of such person’s major life activities. The
physical or mental impairment must have been sustained during
active service in one of the United States Armed Services.
Individual(s) must be involved in the day-to-day management of
the business.
Minority Business
Ownership Minority business enterprises (MBE’s) are
defined as businesses that are at least 51% owned and operated
by a minority individual or group. Under this definition,
minority group members include African American, Hispanic
Americans, Asian American, Asian Indians, and Native Americans.
